Bateman CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 New York March 26. The two win ning USC groups, Palmetto Solutions and The Red Carpet Group, will compete against Loyola University at the finals. As one event, Palmetto Solutions and residential life as sistants held information sessions on credit, which was taught by RAs at Bates, McClintock and Patterson Hall. Sessions were open to all stu dents at USC. Afterward, a survey was given to the students in atten dance and to RAs who taught the material. Surveys were also hand ed out in front of the Astronomy Center and in several marketing, journalism and management class es to evaluate students’ knowledge and feelings on credit. In the team’s preparation for Detroit, Palmetto Solutions mem ber Alison Shuman, a fourth-year advertising student, said her team was figuring out how to present their results for the judges. The Red Carpet Group’s slogan is “Credit Opens Doors.” This was also developed much like the Palmetto Solutions’ slogan through events and research on 17- to 23-year-olds’ thoughts about credit. From their research, the group found that students want to use their credit as a way to move ahead and “open doors” for them. In the “Red Carpet Event”, five different types of vehicles were on display in front of the Russell House. Attached to the cars was information describing what the types of payments would be at dif ferent credit rates. “It was a chance for people to come out and see how credit is used,” team member fourth-year public relations student Katie Page said. Beth Dickey, faculty adviser for the teams, said this was a great ac complishment for two teams to achieve this level of competition. “I think Ford credit was pretty difficult to do,” Dickey said. “We had extraordinary applicants.” The final stage of competition will consist of a 30-minute visual presentation of their campaign and 15 minutes of questions from the judges afterward. “This is such a hands-on expe rience and a real-life challenge,” Shuman said.
