This shows me and re-enforces my positive feelings about this university...” RODNEY HOLUS PRESIDENT, KAPPA ALPHA PSI Brewer said USC is forming a task force made up of students and faculty members to address racial issues on campus, working with the African-American Studies department to produce a seminar on minstrel shows and why they are offensive, and hold ing an open meeting Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Russell House room 304 to inform students of what USC is doing. “There is a lot of programming that goes on right now; evidently it’s either not hitting the mark or it’s not hitting the right people, and I think that is something that is going to be looked at as well,” Brewer said. These new developments only add to the flurry of USC activity in response to the incident. Tuesday, Brewer met with ZTA representatives and minority students to discuss what hap pened. Dennis Pruitt, vice pres ident of student affairs, apolo gized for the incident Tuesday night. “I am elated,” said Kappa Alpha Psi President Rodney Hollis. “This shows me and re-enforces my pos itive feelings about this university and about the fact that they real ize that, no, it is not perfect but that they are going to try to work with us and better race relations on campus.” Hollis said he has gotten a lot of phone calls from students offering their support. Kappa Alpha Psi was scheduled to perform at the ZTA event but left after Tice’s per formance. Hollis said he received a written apology from ZTA with in hours after the event. In its long history, the station was shut down only once for inde cency in 1995, when WUSC had to take a temporary hiatus after al legations of indecency sparked by airing the song “Smells Like Queer Spirit” by Pansy Division, a gay punk rock group parodying the Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” The station eventually restarted a week later under new management. “We’re all too sensitive in America. Some of the stuff that should offend us doesn’t, and the stuff that shouldn’t offend us does,” Walker said. “A tiny, blurry image of a breast that lasts for one second is not the type of thing that’s causing problems in this country.
