For the last few months, I have been having some strange feelings for my roommate which I have not told anybody about. I have always been attracted to guys and I am freaking out about the feelings I am having for her. I am not sure if it is that I just really like her as a friend and kind of look up to her or if these feelings are more romantic. I, of course, don't want to tell her about all of this because I don't even know what to make of it. Plus, she has a boyfriend and that would just make things weird. But I also feel like I am acting kind of strange around her. Please help me sort through this mess.. Aucuiro. i orv\ ohm it hnW in these feelings for such a long time. This is a difficult situation, because while you are having these feelings, you feel as though you cannot express them to her or anyone. Whether this is out of fear or confusion, it makes life hard. Many people go through times in their lives in which exploration of romantic feelings for a person of the same sex challenges all they have ever known about themselves. It is great that you are willing to talk about these feelings and that you recognize that they may not be romantic feelings, but more about admiration for your friend. The CHDC has a new lesbian/bisexual/questioning group that may help you talk with other women who may have never had a lesbian experience, but may be questioning their sexuality. Topics addressing the impact of these new feelings on your college experience and your relationship with your roommate are addressed. It may also be beneficial to talk or write about your feelings concerning your roommate so you are not keeping it all bottled inside. Please do not be scared of these feelings. As for your roommate, try y to think about how ttys is affecting your friendship. ANSWER: It is time for a reality check - every person does not have a date on Valentine's Day. In reality, many single people are happily spending the day just like any other day. For you, if you are concerned about finding a date, then attend a singles event that night or make an extra effort to ask out someone you have always wanted to spend some time with. Think about all of the things you can do and experience by simply relying on yourself. Invite some friends over to watch movies. Use this day to express your love and appreciation for your family or friends. Volunteer to help at a place where people do not have family and friends expressing their love on that day. Most of all, realize that love comes in many forms, not all of which are romantic. Know that someday down the road, romantic love will probably exist for you, but for now, enjoy your singlehood and enjoy your day with people who you care about and who care about you. The USC Counseling and Human Development Center 777-5223 7th floor, Byrnes Building www.sa.sc.edu/chdc adviceatusc@hotmail .com Open Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.q^ It sounds like you have realistic expectations about your relationship with her, which may help you out when you think about all of the issues. This topic is very delicate and would be best sorted out with someone who is a professional or who can help you talk about your feelings in a non-judgmental, open atmosphere. The Safezone Project is also new to the USC Campus. If you need someone with whom to talk, look for a Safezone sign. These areas are places where you will be able to find people who are experienced, professional, and willing to listen. QUESTION: It's almost Valentine's Day again - the dreaded time of year when we single people get to watch as our friends get bouquets of flowers and boxes of chocolates, while we wonder if there is anyone out there who will ever care for us in the same way. I hate this time of year because I never have a boyfriend and feel lonely when it seems like everyone else has a date. How do I get through this?
