Human-rights advocate warns of war’s implications I Lecture asks students, others to weigh effects of action in Iraq BY WENDY JEFFCOAT THE (IAMECOCK A lecture Monday evening prompted students, faculty and visitors to think about the hu man life that would be affected if the United States went to war with Iraq. Rania Masri, a human rights advocate and environ mental scientist born in Lebanon and living in North Carolina, spoke to about 100 people about the implications the proposed war would have on the population of Iraq and on citizens of the United States. The lecture, “Iraq Under Siege: The Humanitarian Perspective,” was sponsored by the Minority Affairs Committee of the Student Senate. CALL BOX A juvenile activated a call box and fled, but was then identified and detained. Reporting officer Adkins responded to a call that a towel was on fire on the sidewalk. Michael Arango fled the scene and was caught. Stivo Kohs said he encountered a man at the doorway of his residence and asked him for his student ID. The man fled the scene, and Kohs found nothing missing from his room. Reporting officer: J.M. David Striplin said that when he came to his car, Brad Young was in the passenger seat. After a brief confrontation, Young fled the scene and Striplin called the police. Peterferenic Jazvari said he lost a wallet containing his Hungarian driver’s license and his international driver’s license, a vehicle registration card, and a Visa credit card. Reporting officer: J.A. Henry. @ FINANCIAL TRANSACTION FRAUD, VARIOUS LOCATIONS (OFF MAP) Alicia Kirkland said someone got her bank card number and made unauthorized purchases. She has since closed her account. Te Hwang said someone stole his credit-card number and used it to make unauthorized purchases via the Internet. He has since canceled the card.
