But three minutes into the second overtime, Jones beat Ortega from 10 yards out for Ortega the game-winner. Scoreless after the half, Julin broke the deadlock at the 68:44 mark with a header off Katherine Stokes’ comer kick. It was Julin’s fourth goal of the season and the eventual game-winner. I think volleyball is such a game of momentum, and that was the difference in games four and five.” The Gamecocks still have a number of key battles left this sea son, including a rematch with Tennessee and a pair of games against rival Florida. But Alban is confident of her team’s ability to excel when coming from behind. “I think mentally, we took our selves out, but Tennessee would not go away today,” she said. “I credit them for giving us a great match, and I think that we did more of taking ourselves out of it, but it’s good to know that we can put ourselves back in too.” Comments on this story?E-mail gamecocksports@hotmail.com Almond CONTINUED FROM PAGE 11 out. It won’t be easy, but it’s not in conceivable. And if they do that and Georgia chokes and loses two games, USC will be playing in Atlanta for the SEC championship. But can Georgia choke? The Bulldogs, ranked fifth in the coun try, are playing well right now. I think it’s still a good possibility. The Bulldogs still have to play at Kentucky. They still have to play the Gators in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. And their last two SEC games are against Ole Miss and Auburn, two of the Western Division’s best. As the sea son winds to a close and the pressure mounts, the Bulldogs could cave in. I know it’s easy to look back and say “What if?” But if you think about it, the Gamecocks are 2 yards and one fumble away from being in Georgia’s position. And that could end up being the differ ence in a title race. Ouch. Weekly Awards Pimp Daddy of the Week: Ryan Brewer Brewer’s 6-yard touchdown run put Carolina ahead for good in the Kentucky game. And the senior, as usual, made some clutch grabs for the Gamecocks late in the game. Toolbox of the Week: Chris Simms I’ve been the only one giving him props, and the Texas quarter back lets me down with a weak performance against Oklahoma. I’m joining the bandwagon — Simms sucks. Quote of the Week: “Lou Holtz da man. Lou Holtz da best coach in da SEC.” — A guy on WIS-TV’s newscast Saturday night I don’t know the man’s name (he was wearing a FUBU jersey and a Ray Lewis bandanna), but he hit it right on the nose.
