The Art Bar, 1211 Park St. USC student looks to get first book published BY STELLA MEZINIS THE GAMECOCK Steve Kish received encouraging words from his mother as a child with big dreams. “You can do anything you put your mind to. You will succeed.” Kish is an aspiring young writer and is studying English at USC. He just completed his first novel, “Oakbrook,” and hopes to be published by Talk Miramax Books. Kish is sending man uscripts and letters to other publishing companies, such as I Insomniac Press, in hopes of getting a re |I ^ 1 ■ sponse from a publisher. Kish didn’t always as pire to be a writer; as a child, he wanted to be an actor. But because of an Kish unconquerable case of stage fright, he decided acting wasn’t in his best interests. “I wanted to create my own charac ters, and I couldn’t act out other char acters created by someone else,” Kish i said. This gave him the drive to start writing. He started writing at 12, and by age 16 he had written “Oakbrook.” Steve said the novel is an “anti-teen story, be cause the characters seem more real and genuine.” All of the story’s characters have a dark side that readers can relate to.
