GE0RGIA45, ARKANSAS ST. 17 Quarterback David Greene completed 21 of 29 passes for 285 yards in his first game as Georgia’s quarterback in the Bulldogs’ 45-17 win over Arkansas State. Last Saturday was also head coach Mark Richt’s first game as the Bulldog coach. With this win, the Bulldogs de buted at No. 25 in the new AP top 25 poll. The Bulldogs take on SEC East rival No. 21 South Carolina in Athens this Saturday. The game will be televised na tionally on ESPN. LOUISVILLE 36, KENTUCKY 10 Louisville quarterback Dave Ragone threw for a career-high 368 yards and three touchdowns as the Cardinals beat the Wildcats 36- 10 Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. The Wildcats will play host to the Ball State Cardinals (0-1) this Saturday. TENNESSEE 33,SYRACUSE 9 Casey Clausen threw a touch down pass on Tennessee’s first play from scrimmage, and the Vol defense shut down the Syracuse passing and running games. Tennessee plays Arkansas this Saturday at the newly expanded Razorback stadium in Fayetteville, Ark. MTSU 37, VANDERBILT 28 Vanderbilt fell at the hands of state foe Middle Tennessee State 37- 28 last Thursday night in Nashville. Vanderbilt quarterback Greg Zolman passed for 300 yards, and receiver M.J. Garrett hauled in 219 yards on eight catches. Vanderbilt plays host to Alabama this Saturday. Western Division UCLA 20, ALABAMA 17 Alabama lost a 20-17 heart breaker to the University of California Los Angeles last Saturday. Quarterback Andrew Zow threw a 71-yard pass to Freddie Milons late in fourth quarter, but the Tide could not recover the onside kick. Alabama travels to Nashville, Tenn., this Saturday to take on the Commodores. ARKANSAS 14, UNLV 10 The Arkansas Razorbacks beat University of Nevada-Las Vegas 14-10 in Little Rock last Thursday in a rematch of last year’s Las Vegas Bowl. A fumbled punt snap gave the Razbrbacks.a series staring at midfield. From there, they drove to the winning score, with Cedric Cobbs running in a one-yard touchdown run. Cobbs, regarded as one of the top running backs in the SEC, gained only 29 yards on 13 car ries. The Hogs will play host to Tennessee this Saturday. MISS. STATE 30, MEMPHIS 10 The Bulldogs beat the Memphis Tigers 30-10 at Starkville on Labor Day in front of a nationally televised audi ence. Dicenzo Miller provided the spark that set off a Bulldog bar rage after trailing 10-0 in the third quarter. Miller had 167 total yards and two touchdowns. The Bulldogs have an off-week before playing BYU next week in Starkville. AUBURN 30, BALL STATE 0 The Auburn Tigers are 1-0 af ter beating the Ball State Cardinals 30-0 at Auburn Saturday night. This week the Tigers will start their SEC sched ule by hosting the Ole Miss Rebels, who are 1-0 after beating Murray State 49-14. LSU 48, TULANE 17 The LSU Tigers are 1-0 after beating the Tulane Green Wave 48-17 Saturday night in Baton Rouge. LSU plays host to the Utah State Aggies (0-1) this Saturday in Baton Rouge. Quarterback Rohan Davey went 19-for-29, throwing for 253 yards and three touchdowns. Runningback LaBrandon Toefield rushed for three touch downs as well. OLE MISS 49, MURRAY ST.14 The Ole Miss Rebels are 1-0 after beating Murray State Saturday night. Quarterback Eli Manning completed 20 of 23 passes with five touchdowns. The Rebels will travel to Auburn to face the 1-0 Tigers. BSU’s Dinwiddie threw a 5-yard touch down pass to Kevin Louwsma against USC’s second-team de fense to make the final score 32-13. South Carolina picked up 392 yards of total offense while hold ing Boise State to 253. The Gamecocks punted the ball only once. Petty had an impressive outing, going 18-25 for 220 yards and a touchdown. Holtz said he feels comfortable with his starter and the way he moves the offense. “Phil Petty is sharp. He knows what he’s doing, and he really knows this offense." As comfortable as Holtz is with his offense, he is wary of his de fense’s missed tackles and wants to see some changes before Saturday’s match-up versus Georgia.
