TOTCSamecocT Cold’s newest album sizzles by Erin O’Neal The Gamecock -&■ -& -ft out of -iV tV Miisie Cold has followed up the 1999 release of their self-titled album with one of equally dark, nihilis tic proportions. These 13 tracks, shaded with varying tempos and fiercely intense melodies, show the ex tent of this Jacksonville, Florida-based group’s talents. “13 Ways to Bleed on Stage” contains an untamed, raw emotion, balanced gracefully with flowing basslines and pounding beats. Were frontmen Gavin Rossdale of Bush and Stain’s Aaron Lewis to have a child, Cold’s totally bent vocalist, Scoot Ward, would undoubtedly be the result. The vocals in the CD’s opening track, “Just Got Wicked,” might actually be mistaken for Rossdale’s if it weren’t for one line in which Ward screams out the song title. The same could be said for “She Said,” “It’s All Good” and “Same Drug.” Most of the songs have kept their dark, angst-filled edge, and though the CD kicks things off with engaging guitar licks and lyrics, it gets progressively quiet, closing up with “Bleed.” The softer sounds of “No One,” “Sick of Man” and “Witch” display Cold’s members’ individual talents glori ously. From these borderline acoustic sounds to head-hitting, heart-pounding, adrenaline-filled tracks like “End of the World” and “Send In the Clowns,” “ 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage” has it all. For those who enjoyed Cold’s self-titled debut album, you ain’t heard nothing yet. The spotlight desk can be reached at gamecockspotlight@hotniail.com.
