STREET FrM Pag One pertai any to the stretch of Green between Sumter aid BuD streets. UNDER CURRENT PROPOSALS.the east lane of Saunter Street will be closed fra Devine to Green Streets or. in other words. on the Rusel House side of Langstreet eatre. The area closed off would be developed into a lnnaped mall with a drop-off area for people attending a performance at lAngstreet. since the new en trance to LWxgstreet will be on the Russell House side of the building. The west lane of Sumter Street around Longstreet will be widened approximately five feet to accomodate two-way traffic there. Bull Street will be a one way street between Green and Blossom with slanted parking on both sides of the street. Tbe special SGA committee has met twice so far and found that the majority of students seem to object to the widening of Green Street and the erection of a wrought-iron fence down the middle of the proposed median, . according to Alford. On the other hand, everyone seems to favor the propsals for Sumter Street. IRONICALLY. Brunton had expected the exact opposite to occur. He said when the plans were first developed he thought."We won't have any problem with Green Street-it's a shoe-in." He added he had an ticipated a great deal of reaction toward the plans for Sumter Street. On Tuesday. Brunton told the Gamecock that the matter of the iron fence down the median is arbitrary. He said that the median could be constructed without the fence The fence would only be erected later if it were needed to prevent jay walking and to preserve the ON STAGE - The hit show of 1975 0 A new play by San as President Ha "GIVE 'EM H Fromt the Oval Rooms of U.a Se... fromt the1 to ihe 1946 "whistie robust, earthy, roNicing 8. Bnton said afl the plans fer Green Street are currently susended because of all the opposition expirssed toward the plans. ie said no more will be done on the plans until the SGA cvmmittee makes some wort of reommendation to him. HOWEVER. Brunton also told the Gamecock he does not think the basic proposals for Green will be changed. In response to the idea of narrowing Green. Brunton said that would be im possibe because the Columbia City Traffic Committee has declared two 18-foot wide lanes must be kept open on Green. That stipulation could not be met should the street be narrowed. After receiving the SGA committee's recommendation Brunton will then determine whether or not any changes in the Green Street plans should be made. If he feels any changes in the plans should be brought about. he will recommend such changes to the USC Facility and Grounds Advisory Committee. That Committee would then study the proposed changes in the plans for Green and make a recommen-dation of some sort to the USC Board of Trusees-. At that point. the Board would vote on the matter.
