"CA ROLINIANA" IS MOVED INTO NEW QUARTERS "Treasure House" of South Caro lina Writings is Placed in Fire-Proof Room LIBRARY STAFF CREDITED Misses English and Rion Realize Need of Collection of S. C. Material Collections of "Caroliniana" which were previously crowded into an al cove in the main part of the library, have since the completion of the fire proof wing on the west, been moved into .new quarters, a room a'bout 25 eet wide and 65 long, located on the third floor of the building over the inueum roon. This room, which is equipped with steel shelves and arranged convenient ly for the various material of the col lection, will accommodate a vast num her of books and periodicals, many of which will be added from time to time. In a bulletin compiled by Miss Eliza beth English, assistant librarian, en titled "Caroliniana in the University of South Carolina Library" the )reface states: "The University Library has long been regarded as a treasure house of material relating to South Carolina, but tuch of this reference matter has been inaccessable to the student who would specialize in the life of ouri state. There was no attempt made by the older librarians to assemble in one place everything relating to South Ca rolina, so the books and aimiphlets on this, to us, very important subject were Mixed with those in the general libra ry. Miss Margaret H. Rion, a former librarian, realized the value of a col lection of "Caroliniana" and began to put aside in a special location all that she caie across. The present library <taff has continued this selaration un fil it is hoped that all of the library's "Caroliniana" is in the South Carolina alcove. It can never be said definitely that all of this material has been re moved from the other classes of books, ~for whenever any are rearranged, a bit of "Caroliniana" is very apt to come to light." In this room will be found every type. Of literature and references Iertaining to South Carolina. Various news papers of the state, bulletins and cata logues of this University, records of the general assembly, as well as bi ographics of legislators, and various printedi matter is being comi0led into orderly fashion. Here will also be found histories of the state, and the two notedi histories of the University of South Carolia-Green's and La - Borde's. Fiction and poetry by the writer of the state will also be found among this valuable collection of "Caroliniana.'' -USC La Tertulia Espanola Elects Frierson Pres. Barron Bridges . Chosen Secy.
