The Clen
The following- will probably be the line
up of the Clemson Tigers against David
son's strong team on Wednesday of fair
week:
Cochran, center; Hydrick, right guard;
Fleming, left guard; Odom, right tackle;
Gilmer, right end; Horton, left end; Capt.
Strick Coles, quarter; Lokey, right half
back; McFadden, left halfback; Robbs,
fullback.
Substitutes-Harris, B. D. Boykin, Fur
tick, Brandon and Hanckel.
Capt. Coles is the only man on the team
who ever played on 'varsity for a whole
season. Some of the others have played
as substitutes before this season, but a
few are playing football for the first time
in their lives.
Capt. Coles, who belongs to the present
Senior class, hails from Jacksonville, Fla.,
though he was once a resident of Colum
bia. He is now playing his third year on

the 'varsity. He has always played the
end position till this year, and has been
ranked as perhaps the best end to his size
in the Southern colleges. It was found
necessary to use him, because of his su
perior knowledge of the game, at quarter
this year. He is just 20 years old; weighs
only 185 pounds, and is 6 feet 8 1-2 inches
tall. He is an unusually active player.
As first baseman on the Clemson nine, he
is widely known in baseball circles. He
ison Team
is a brother of Cad Coles, the crack Au
gusta batsman.
E. Fleming, the big follow from Locust
Grove, in the fastnesses of the Blue Ridge
Mountains, was a substitute last year. He
enjoys the distinction of being the biggest,
the tallest, and the best humored man on
the team. He has quite a reputation in
track athletics as a hammer thrower and
shot putter, in which capacities he has
won many points for Clemson. Fleming
Is 27 years old, is 6 feet 2 inches high, and
weighs 205 pounds when he is not fat.
If he had commenced playing football in
his freshman year he would have been
an All-Southern star by this time. He
will graduate next year.
Robbs, who promises to be one of the
best fullbacks ever developed at Clemson,
is playing his first year as a regular on
the 'varsity. He is a game fighter and a
heavy plunger. His development this year
has been remarkable. He is only 20 years
old, is even. 6 feet and weighs 176 pounds.
Gaffney has the distinction of being the
place of his abode. He is a Junior.
Odom, who is a member of the present
Senior class, hails from the level lands of
Barnwell, Blackwell being his home. He
is playing tackle as a regular this year.
Last year he made 'varsity before the sea
son closed. He is an unusually clear
headed fellow. He has just reached his
majority, is 5 feet 8 inches and weighs 165.
Gilmer is practically a new man at
tackle, but he. plays like a veteran. le
is a member of the Sophomore class, and,
therefore, will have two more years to
play. If he continues to develop for the
next two years as he has done this season
he will be a star tackle, with a claim on
All-Southern. Gilmer is a citizen of
Greenville. He is 22 years old, 5 feet 9 1-2
inches tall, and weighs 173 pounds.
W. P. White, '09, is well known in track
athletics. He has never played football
except in class games till this season. The
fact that he and Capt. Strick Coles
change positions at will shows how rapid
ly he has got on to the game. He makes
good at end or quarter. He is only 18
years old, is 6 feet 9 1-2 inches tall and
weighs 162 pounds. White is a native of
Laurens.
Horton, who plays left end, is the new
est man on the team. He hails from An
derson. He is the youngest man on the
team, being but 17. He is 5 feet 10 inches
tall, and weighs 167. Horton will make a
record to be proud of if he continues in
the game.
Hydrick, right guard, has had strenuous
opposition for the position he plays, but
he has made a fine record. He is gritty,
and can stand much hammering. He has
another year in college, and will likely be
one of the best men on the 'varsity before
he leaves Clemson. Hydrick is a member
of the well known Orangeburg family of
Hydricks. He is 20 years old, 5 feet 11
inches tall, and tips the beam at 171
pounds.
Lokey, the sturdy right halfback, hails
from Gainesville, Ga., tnd is a member of
the Sophomore class. A grittier player
than Lokey can hardly be found. He
verily loves the game, and enjoys a scrim
mage. He is 20 years old, 5 feet 8 1-2
inches tall, and weighs 171 pounds.
R. D. McFadden is not "Doc" McFad
den, who was one of the best players on
last year's 'varsity. The McFadden who
is giving trouble to .iis opponents this
year is from Sardinia He is a Freshman,
but he plays football like a full grown
Tiger. Left halfback is his position, and
'he plays it well. He is 19 years old, 5
feet 8 1-2 inches tall, and weighs 171
pounds.
. The substitutes are ready at any time to
fill any place that may need them.
Harris, a Junior from Spartanburg
County. He is 20 years old, 5 feet 9 1-2
inches high, and weighs 161. Boykin. from
Boykins, Is 19 years old, 6 feet 9 1-2 inches
tall, and weighs 161. Furtick, a brot'er
of "Fritz," the great halfback of t vo
years ago, is 20 years old, 6 feet ant' 8
inches tall, and weighs 150. Brandon, 'Ov,
is from McConnersville, Is 24 years of age,
5 feet 11 inches in height and weighs 170.
Hanckel Is from Charleston, is a member
of the Sophomore class, and is 19. He is
5 feet 7 inches tall, and wVighs 160.
