Owing to th? short notice, there w?9 no attendance on the part of the guarantors from the ('lemson-Auburn football game at the meeting which was to have been held in tho office of Mr. T. Frank Watkins yesterday af ternoon at 6 o'clock. This meeting was to have been held for thc pur pose of appointing various commit tees to seo about preparations for tho big game which' is now Just two weeks off. Another meeting will bo held some time during the early part of next week, most probably on Monday after noon. At tho meeting, which ls to be held, various committees will be selected, probably one for attending to thc advertising, one for seeing that the grounds at Beuna Vista park are put In shape, one for the entertain ment of tile members of the teams while they aro in Anderson, etc. These committees will be selected from among those who signed tlte guarantee. Probably nothing more than tho Barnum and Balley circus will at tract a larger crowd to Anderson than the Clemson-Auburn game on Octo ber 16. This gamo is always watch ed by football fans over the entire south, especially the southern col leges, and its outcome generally de Irides to some extent tho southern championship. The Auburn team ls expected to reach Anderson on Friday, October 15, and that afternoon they will en gage in secret practice on the grounds on which tho game ls to be played. There will come to Ander son a large following of the Auburn team. The Clemson team will practice on their -home field the day before tho game and will come to Anderson on Friday on a special train with thc cadets and the faculty. Clemson be ing so near, lt is expected that tho entire student body will attend and this city will feel as if the encamp ment ?-as on again. It bas not been determined yet what social entertainment will be ar ranged in Anderson for the visiting teams. If the manager of the An derson theatre succeeds hi getting the'attraction. Fire yesterday morning at 9 o'clock destroyed a four room cottage on Lyona street at Orr mills. The house was occupied by Lee Day ai d Mrs. Elmore, both of who with their families were out when the fire was. discovered. Practically everything in th? house was destroyed and it waa only with the help of the volunteer fire department that the adjoining cottagas were savud from the flames. Kelton, super intendent of education and there were about 34 young ladies and four young men who stood the test.
