Secretary appeared before city council and secured appropriation of $105.00 which with special fund rais ed was sufficient to pay all indebted ness connected with the Clemson en campment. The total cost of Hie en campment, au Mer report submitted to tin- amusement committee, was $445, which covered everything, the biggest part of which or ubout $200.00 was for freight on tents Columbia to An derson and return. The encampment, we fl.ink. was a success. Annual Clean-up Hay. We participated, as usual. In the annual clean-up day. being u Joint af fair of the city council, civic league and ourselves. We filed, together with other com mercial organizations in the State, a petition for a hearing before the State railroad commission to secure a mill ing in transit rate and a stoppage in transit privilege on grain and Kdw. ll. Richards, manager of Cae local grain elevator, represented us at the heuring subsequently held In Colum bia. The outcome of the hearing was the securing of n modified reduction, and privileges, which it is believed will clear the situation sutisfuctorlly. The new lutes went Into effect June 1st. Publicity. We prepared u 2,500-word article on An derson for the annual guide book of the Atlantic Coast Line-Charleston ?St Western Carolina Railway, which is used for general distribution through out the country. We also, at their request, sent 650 pieces of literature on Anderson to M. V. Richards, in- , dUBtrtal commissioner of the South ern railway, at Washington, D. C. We have kept un the usual news story publicity work. Ad Club Work. The Ad Club bas been reorganized as a department of our organization, with its own ofheers and members; it holds a banquet monthly, la composed ot the younger business people, and ls doing a nice work. It stands for clean advertising and is creating a better spirit locally in that direction, lt has held two window dressing con tests, which have been of much value to all. Hotel. We have attended several confer ences connected with the prospect of securing a new hotel for Anderson. And have entertained seferal outside parties who have come Uere ia con nection with the same. Chautauqua. Our second annual chautauqua was held In the middle of May. lt was a success, and we netted as our pro uts on the same a total of $403.50, which has been deposited to the gen eral fund. title. Our cl\?c committee baa endorsed the plans for a playground movement In Anderson, and is now endeavoring to work out plans to cons?mate the same. Agricultural. Mir. W. W. Long, state agricul tural agent, appointed Mr. S. M. Myara aa county agricultural demon strator, vice W. II. ?Garrison, resign ed. Mr. byar s baa made a great sta-.'t aa demonstrator and we believe will maka a splendid man for the work. He 'aaa purchased an automobile and ls attending strictly to business, and ls going to do some real constructive work.
