MAN SUES HEAD OF STATE INSANE ASYLUM A <1 image suit, alleging mental an- 1 guish, has been started in Union County Superior court against John McCanipbell, superintendent of the state insane asylum, and Kirksey & Company, emhalmers of Morganton, by Mi E. I.. Melton of Uuford town- 1 ship, lie asks for a verdict of $4200. The action is based on indifference and negligence displayed by the two , defendants in the preparation and ; jshipment of the body of the plaintiff's I wife, who died at the asylum on No- < !vembrr 24, according to Mr. Melton's I attorneys Messrs. J. C. M. Vann and < VV. O. Lemmond. I j The corpse of the deceased did not reach Monroe until the morning of Nov. 26th. It was expected to arrive ! on the morning of Nov. 25th, and Mr. j Melton had made preparations for | the funeral services to be conducted ! that day. As a result of this delay,!, "the plantiff was greatly harrassed ; in mind, his feelings were hurt, hists family was greatly humiliated and mortified, and embarrassment and j grief of his family and friends which ( resulted from the negligence of the , defendants, contributed to plaintics's anguish," says the complaint. 1 When Mrs. Melton was placed in s the institution, the plaintiff claims he 1 instructed the defendant, Mr. McCampbell, to notify the Clerk of the Court of Union County, in case of death, and to ship the body to Monroe. Kxpcn.se of the performance of this request was guaranteed by Mr. Melton.
