M. Cannon. Dear friend, Your letter received several day! ago and was indeed glad to hear fron you. Yes, I am still "Somewhere ir Frartce." Have been over here near iy seven months now. My how time does fly, only seems like severa! weeks since I left the good old U. S A. instead of seven months. I have seen right much of the world. Was in Old Mexico for sonu tim? then in Canada. I hutod s<: much about the terrible explosion at Halifax as it was such a pretty place. No donbt you read of the U. S. soldiers parading in London. Well that was my regiment. We were given a swell reception and had the honor of passing on review of the King and Queen and several other noble persons. From London we crossed over to France. I am liking it fine here although you can't say that you like it as well as you do the U. S. A. As to the French people I have to say that they are simply fine. They take so much interest in us boys and do everything possible to make us enjoy ourselves. It is hard for us to learn their language but they are meeting us half way. We study their language and they are learning to speak English also. You would be surprised to hear the small children that have learned to speak Eng^ _ lish just from being around us. I wish I could tell you all about this country but-can't it is so hard to write an interesting letter when you can just write so much and have to lcevc out so much. My, it is beginning to look like business from the soldiers that are coming over. This country is full of U. S. soldiers. Say, who do you reckon I saw yesterday, no other than Fred Buchanan, you remember the negro boy who worked for Mr. Porter so long. I would have never recognized him if he hadn't spoken to me. He is the first one 1 have run up with from South Carolina since I have been over here that I knew. ( have met several boys from Texas that I knew, however. Mrs. Eddins sends me The Adver tiaer rignt orten so 1 get right much of the news of what is going on back there. My time is up for writing so I will close wishing yo^self and Mrs. Cannon the best of luck. Would like to hear from you again sometime. Your old friend, Chas. Rembert Cason. P. S.
