This camp is located in a most picturesque place situate between two historical ridpres of Civil war fame; Missionary Ridffe on the one side and j Mt. Lookout on the other, though at ! distance of 6 or 7 miles apart. The barracks are constructed for , i each company in a row and accom- j" modate trom ;10 to r?o nion. The sani- I tary conditions arc very good, and ' modern conveniences for each company exist. The social life of the camp is indeed a credit to the good people of Chattanooga, who treat us more like members of their families than strangers. We are invited into their ' homes and the fatted calf is always 011 the table. The religious side of life is recognized and looked after by the different churches of the city and the commodous Y. M. C. A's. that exist within the camp itself. j The camp is made up of men also j boys from all over the country, Pennsylvania, I suppose, furnishing more than any other state, a great bunch of fellows, all interested in each other and willing to help each other in any way possible. To date we have hail most every I phase of military life?drilling of all Kinds, digging of trenches, both wide and deep; bayonet fighting, target shooting, and, worst of all, living in the trenches night and day in all kinds of weather. My company returned yesterday from the target range which is located l.r> miles from our camp; and we had to hike it there spending almost I a week and then hike it back home. This week we land in the trenches for three days and nights, and hope to the Lord the weather will be fine. Our daily duties consist of a neat little schedule to wit: arise at .r>:l.r>, 1 wash your face, make up your bunk, sweep out, eat breakfast, and then assume the position of the soldier, drilling like the d (with an occasional conference or study period) : until 12 o'clock, then mess and again i the position of a soldier in drills ami | exercises till 5 o'clock; then supper; I and a study period of from 7 to 9 and by that time you can go to bed without saying your prayers or taking a bath. I Our officers are on the job all the time, but occasionally, we have the ' chance to treat them like gentle- , men. I My regards to all of my acquaintances in Chesterfield and with best l r _ - . wiirnca n>r a success I u I year, I am. Very truly, EMSLEY ARM FIELD. J Co. 2, R. (). T.
