NEW FOREST PRESERVE IN N. C. Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina near Biltmore, which was purchased from the George W. Vanderbilt estate, has been made a Federal game preserve by proclamation of the president of the United States, and deer, wild turkey and other game that are said to be plentiful in this tract, which is regarded as one of the most interesting places in the "Land of the Sky," will be protected , by the government. This is the first Federal game preserve of its kind to be created east of the Missis- J sippi river. Pisgah forest is easily ac- ( cessible from all parts of the south, lutitui* Vkt.if.li.ul lit. 1 .. Owing to the protec- t I tion against hunting which has been j a afforded the tract for a number of I r years, the game has not been killed j a out, as is the case in most places in C the southern mountains. As a game ! ( preserve, no hunting will be allowed ] in the forest, and as deer and other 1 game increase on the area it is ex- I pected that the overflow will drift e out of the forest and gradually restock adjacent lands. A movement j f is now on foot to place a herd of elk J and one of buffalo this winter. Re- js gulations governing the camping and I fishing privileges have been drawn j ? up in co-operation with local citizens i J and sporting clubs, and will be issued 1 by the secretary of agriculture. It is understood that regular fishing will t be allowed, but the number of per- 1 t mits issued the first season will be l purely experimental, since the capaci- I ty of the streams is not known. i ' < A MAN-MAID 1 A lady stopping at a hotel on the ] Pacific coast rang the bell the first morning of her arrival and was very t much surprised when a Japanese boy < opened the door and came in. s "I pushed the button three times 1 for a maid," she said sternly, as she | dived under the bed covers. ] "Yes," the little fellow replied, ] "me she."?Los Angeles Times. 1 Copyright llttby .
