It is to be hoped that the Chesterfield
and Lancaster Railroad will put
! into operation the suggested motor
car service making two round trips a
I day. This would be an improvement
! over the present schedule. Chesterfield
and the other towns along the
O. & L. are in need of double daily
passenger service, it the passenger
service is inaugurated then the mail
service could easily be arranged.
Magistrate M. S. Watson was en'
gaged in hearing Tuesday several
I cases against negroes for. fighting at
1 a church a few days ago. One defendant
was fined $25. Mr. Watson
has served only one term as Magistrate
at Chesterfield and retires voluntarily
early in the new year. He
has made a good record and has made
Chesterfield one of the best Magis;
trates we have ever had.
The tendency of the price of cotton
* continues upward. The wise ones
.-ay that the price-will go to 20 cents
before spring. We do not know as
to this hut the f - t remains that one
of the smallest crops in history will
r. be marketed this fall. In Chesterlield
county as a whole from onehalf
to two-thirds of u crop will be
j made. Traveling men are unanimous

Mr. John I). Douglass, of Scotland.
S. was taken to the hospital at
Florence Monday to undergo an oper
Jon for hioo<l poisoning. He is said
to have developed the poison from
.he blood of a newly killed hog, this
blood coming in contact with a slight
found on his hand. It will he remembered
that Mr. Gulledge, of our
town, became poisoned from a similar
source a year or two ago Those
killing hogs would do well to take the
precaution of disinfecting the hands
thoroughly when having-oecn exposed
to the fresh blood of a hog.
