Washington, Pastor , Sunday was Junior Church day at Cumberland, the _ anniversary l" >f the Jehovah Society, M -gt._ Au-_ - gi stint1 Episcopal church. Because of the above mentioned anniversary, the congregation of Cumberland was very small as most of the prominent members belong to the above named society. The church school opened on time with a good attendance. After a brief study of the lesson, the pastor gave a brief review as - usual. Devotional service began strict 'y on time with I-, A Rrndhy at the piano and the youmg peo pie in the choir stand. The pastor preached an instructive and edifying sermon on the theme: The True Foundations His text - was taken from I Cor. 3:11. The evening worship was highly Inspirational. Miss C. B. Priester, . evangelist from Chnrlnstnn?having arrived to begin a ten nights' meeting, also Prof, and Mrs. C. G. Garrett of Columbia, worshiped with us. Miss Priester being somewhat fatigued from traveling, the pastor delivered another instructive senium-on the-theme. Jesus Crowd ed Out. Both Professor and Mrs. Garrett made remarks which were enjoyed by all present. Mrs. Gari ett complimented the pastor a n d congregation for their thouirhtfulness in nrrnnoincr and grouping thp young people together and training them for sercioo in-thc church: Among some of the things Mrs Garrett said are the following: I was singing ever since I was 12 rears old, but I did, not have the opportunity these young people have today. I had to sing with the olden members^of the church, which I did not enjoy. These oung people are grouped together v here thev can sing and talk ogethcr. I think this is wonder pul. Townsend, McKissick and H. Hol'and. With only a few weeks remaining now before conference we are thankful that Wo can truthfully say that Cumberland has had one of the, best and most neaceful years under the leadership and administration of her present pastor than she has had in many years. Dr. Washington does not be-^ irevr In to6~Tmicfi talking, but makes action count. Things are beuig carried over in a grand and noble way. Watch us grow. When in Aiken stop at Cumberland.
