REPORTS 163% GAIN
A gain of 163.1 per cent in Jot
found by the State Employment
Service in June of last year was
reported today by the South Carolina
Unemployment Compensation
Commission.
To be exact, last month the Ser
vice made 7,691 placements as
compared-tx>?2,923 in the corresponding
month of 1940. During
the first Bix months of this year,
the Employment Service made a
total of 44,837 placements.
Since March the Employment
Sei^ice has conducted an extensive
Labor - Registration Program
in urging al unemployed persons,
and all persons having defense
skills not being used in their pres
ent jobs, to register at their lo:al
office. As a result, literally
never reported at the Employment

MeLeod, the treasurer of our c'.ub,
underwent an operation at the
Wuverly Good Samaritan Hospital
Tuesday. We wish for her a speedy (
recovery, i no club members weftt
to see her Sunday afternoon.
On last Sunday we could not
have our meeting because of the
rain. We were very prlad to have
with Us Sunday Miss Maude? Jefferson
who is visiting in Charlotte,
N. C. She went back Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Martin.
I hope that all will attend the
Young Peoples' Conference which
will be held at Jenkinaville the
last week in this month.
We elected (our delegates for
the conference. They are Misses
Susie Mae Senders, Elizabeth Jefferson,
Sara Sanders, Mr. Izell
Ddoni, George Freeman and" Miss
