Complementing Cab Calloway ami his world famous orchestra is an mtrurband organization known to fiance fans and jitterbugs as the Four Cab .Jivers. The personnel of the quartet is made up of "Chu" Berry, Oozy Cole, Milton Hinton and Danny Barker. All four -of the men are -well known virtuosos of their respective instruments as will the dancers who will cavort to Calloway's band on October 18 at the Township AiKUtoriuuh?Columbia. S. C-. learn.Both Cozy Cole and Chu Berry were nominated by l'aul Whiteman on his A11-American swing band. Cozy plays the drums while Berry's specialty is the tenor sax. Milton 11 in ton is well known for his capabilities on the lass violin or "dog- house" as it is known among jitterbugs, while Barker really whirls his lingers like -mad ?over tin? guitar.?or "Strum Box." The Four Cab JiOcrs were or Kuuizi'u one evening when the Calloway organization was playing1 at Now York's famous Cotton dub. During the early part of one evening when there were few customers seated in the club, the four boys began a 'jam"^.session. When they had completed a run through "After You're {lone" the few cash clients began applauding and _ahiiuting. for more. Calloway who was in his dressing room, overheard the applause and it served to give birth to an idea which is now popular from coastto-eoast-and is known to recorded music fans everywhere. Sept. 30, and running through Saturday, 0ct.?G, the people of the "Skilled,'' an all Negro community, turned out in full force to put over one ol the finest exhibits of cooperative community life se^n in this section for some time. This marked the fourth and one of :|ho most successful Fairs in this'community. The women of the group had charge of exhibits and were under the direction of Mrs. J. W, Win'dom. ThostT* in charge ,of booths were as follows: Mrs. A. J. Green, quilts: Mrs. Dora Fladger, garden; Mrs.-M. M. McCoy, fancy work, Mrs!"* W. L. Jackson, cooking; Mrs. Anna Quick, sewing; Mrs. Foster 'Johnson, flowers; Mrs. Luke Shippman, florals; Mrs. W. I.. Rethea, laundry. Mrs. Ifattio. Bethea, fruits; and Master Lewis McMillan, hobbies. The exhibits were artistically arranged in beautifully decorated booths. Many fine specimens of farm products were on display, including corn, potatoes, oats, melons, cane, peas, soy beans, and cured meat. Mr. R. C. Bacote, farm demonstrate agent of Marion, gave an extension service display and show ed how grain may be treated through a home made device.
