When the contestants . rcpoit.'d the ninth guide's andidate, Miss Georgie Mae Cain was the winner by a wide margin. The ninth grade under the leadorshin of Prof. \V. H.. Thompson won the honors last year. The other classes were determined, tins year tc shut the ninth grade out. Each class worked haul to have its coji ter.tant?crowned;?but?when therace ended all hats were taken off to .Prof. Thompson and the ninth grade. The report were: Ninth grade $120.; eleventh grade $105.25; eighth grade, $51.02; tenth grade $40.00. The .Coronation took place Friday, -May 17th. Crowds of patrons and other visitors thronged the grounds. At 5:30 p.m. the coronation exercises were begun. The 4th Sunday in April saw a record breaking crowd to witness the program held in the afternoon under the auspices of the ushei hoard of?t.:'.e ?church.?Refreshments were Served to the visiting ustfjer boards. On Tuesday, April 30, the pastor left for Marion to attend the Baptist Educational and Missionary convention of which he is th1 secretary. Deatons Wade Math-j .. ais, Wm. Cleveland, Ohio, assisted the pastor and preached "to an appreciative audience at our evening service. For several years the various auxiliaries of the church have sponsored a queen's contest during tho month of May. This yeat the contest was directed by Bro L. E. Switzer, Supt. of the primary department of our S. S. and Mrs. N A Robinson. president of the Missionary society. Eighteen queens were in the contest. So lively was the contest this yeai V that most of our own members and many Tnends from "offieF churches worked to help their favorite queen. This was not a ralIv but?it whs ? financial drive ? warding..ihe honor of being crown ed to .the queen bringing in the highest amount. This honor was conferred upon sister Flossie Tay lor sponsored by the choir. The amount raised in this contest was $417.00. Bro. Alston. 1 he program featured an adress i.y Mr. W. Kent Alston, a 'Summervillian and former student at Alston High School, Who is at present principal of Robert Smalls High School of Beautfort, S. C. 1'he Glee Club of the school rendered very appropriate music for tne occasoin. Among the, many out of town diiesls were the widow and daugh ter, Mrs. T. TL Alston and Alias Rosamond Alston; the latter being a member of State College's, laculty. Also present were Mr. J H. Parler, principal of Wilkinson High School, located in Orange burg, S. C., with many others ami fcwell wishers of both races and school. After the program a pilgrim aire was made to decorate the graves of Dr. Alston and the late Mrs. G. M. Ashe, a former principal, with the hundreds of beautiful flowers contributed by stuents, parents, and friends. The entire community looks forward to this becoming an annual celebration. It was announced this week that the present faculty would return .or another school year witth the exception of Mrs. E. English Mance, who was married during the current term.
