Handy, "Father of the Blues", were held here Wednesday at 1:30. at Abyssinian Baptist church. Interment will foL low at Woodlawn cemetery, under the direction off Franwlin A. Carr, undertaker. Miss Qandy's death occurred Sunday at Edgecorpbo sanitarium, ~ following a major operation per' formed three days earlier. She was 28 years old. Like her illustrious 05-year-old father, who wrote the age-old "St. V T> 1 ?? - * - ?< L/Ouis JDiues ?me tune mat has grossed royalties of over a half million dollars?Miss Handy was a talented musician. She played th? piano, sang and cofttposed. -r One of her published numbers, : fStay,Y?Is?well known in usic circles. Assisted Father's Firm For a number of yearB Miss Handy assisted in the office of the Handy Brothers music comppany, Inc., 1587 Broad-way. She did cler"" ical work in addition to copying musical scores and demonstrating songs from that firm's catalogues. iMisB Handy's death follows that of her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Price Handy, by two years. It will be recalled?that refusal of the Knickerbocker hospital, this city to accept the late Mrs. Handy ag a patient there is believed to have hastened her death on March 11, . 1937. In addition to her father, with whom she resided, Miss Handy is " survived l^y two brothers, W. C. Handy,Jr. \, and Wyer Handy two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Handy Handy Lewis and Mrs. Lucille Handy Springer; two uncles, Charles Fi Handy, this city, and Sneed ?Price,Henderson, Ky.; three aunts, Mr^. Joyce $16.25; Deacon Eims, $15.15 and all the others did nicely also, we are faithfully hoping to double the amount this month, the total being $139.18. S.
