ORIENTAL SOCIAL CLUB The Oriental club for the past two weeks has been entertained by Mrs. Julie Bell Ware and Mrs. Flossie Roseboroud'h. On February 11, Mrs. Leila Walker Moore entertained us a. the home of Mrs. Evelyn William Black. Henderson St. Mrs. Black served a delicious course of cocktail befojai the meeting began; after which it was called to order by our president and the devotion,als were carried out in order. This was a very business meeting in which plans are being made toward the celebration of our anniversary. We were very proud to have our new members present, Mrs. Evelyn William Black anil, Mrs. Martha Moore who were introduced to the club and given introductory remarks by the president, Mrs. Edith Pickens. The first was brought in hy Mrs. Leila W. Moore and the latter bv Mrs. Julia Bell Ware. -The social hour thus begun, which was turned into several games of whist. Highest scores were won by Mrs. Monte/ Logan Bethea and Mrs. Julia Bell Ware, lowest scores were made by Mrs. Ethel L. Nesbitt Ford, and Mrs. Martha Moore, L. W. The appreciative audience listened to a very interesting program as given by some of the members of the club and guest speakers. The history of the National-Association of Col logo. Women _ \vn> given by the president, Mrs. Jane S. Williams. Comparison and contrast of the pootry of Philis Wheatley and Alice Dunbar Nelson was aptly shown by Miss Thomasina E. Thomas. Some prominent women in the history of the Y. W. C. A. were dedicated by Miss W. B. Hawthrone. The principal addresses of the afternoon were given by Prof. J. Andrew Simmons, principal of the Booker Washington school, who presented a challenge to the college women and to college graduates, and Dr. John Briggs. Prof, of Philosophy at Benedict college who used as his subject, "Women." Music was furnished by the Benedict quartet, under the direction of Mr. Samuel L. Finley; Mr. Fer ainann r. ADranam presinea at the orfran, and Mr. H. H. Juno and Mr. R. N. Scott of Booker Washington school rendered musical numbers.
