Pinckney, Grand Master, St. George, S. C. Chicago News > ????? By Prof. W. R. Bowman The Madam and I decided to spend the last week in Chicago visiting the parks and other amusement places, so we first went to Lincoln Park, which is as large as Columbia, there _you can see almost any thing imaginable. From there to River View, Washington Park, where you will see all kinds of sea monsters- from every known country in the world. We also went ' o boat riding ori Lake Michigan at night. Such beauty and scenery the eye nas never Delield: bus riding, elevated ! cars and hundreds .of other things makes one s.ee. as rRTver before. We also, visited Sears Roebuck & Co., Montgomery Ward Co. Both of these large concerns are doing thousands of dollars worth of business4 daily and are reliable from every view point* The Moston Store ~tfhd the Fair Store rae also doing ~a: thriving business7 each owns a block and sell almost everything. Church and Other IJtfews Just tG get comparison, we visited 50 or more of the leading TChurches in Chicago and you will be greatly surprised at the different mode or way gach Church open and close their service; not a Church open in a similar way, each has its own peculiar woy of opening;, but to ffly wsty of thinking, Pilgrim Baptist Church i? the leading Baptist Church," or I should say the leading Church.in Chicago, though we were unable to vijjit all the leadihg Churches. " t..... L)r. Alston, the popular pastor, I understand, was born inJJixie, and has been preaching for men pnly evory Sunday at 9:30 a. m. Men of all denomnations' meet him at this service. -Uo?a pornliar way of making a visitor welcome. He makes all visitors hold up their hands, while holding them up, his sweet melodius voice thundered and said: "All Baptists that oialte-tfrese visitors welcome say amen." The rtiultitude of amen will suijily catcft you. Many times visitors go there to-hear the men's sermon expecting try-go elsewhere at their respective choice for the 11 o'clck service, but Dr. Alston puts ,?o much gravy and sweetness in his discourse that it is a hard job to leave his 11 o'clock Tfervice. If they-stay,- nine tifties oat of ten Dr.. Alston will catch them in his net^ Hence Tiis Church is growing by leaps and bounds. We heard Dr. Alston lecture and preach. He is an interesting speaker. When?ne left?Chicago, ho was?in. Ohio attending a family reunion. Dr. Alston is not like many of the igiToTUnt Baptist preaeners in ?k>uth Carolina who know nothing tG pnoarh about but wateiy especially on Baptism dav, misleading a part of their congregation and insulting some of the best people in the community who ?%? $> ?%> f D ETERMINED . ? est price possible for Ministers and Sund ? the Sunday School Board c combined to purchase a fu ^ Macli ?
