When quite a email boy, like most other youths, I had a great inclination to attend all the shows, circusses, negro-dancers, concerts, etc., that came along. On one occasion I was very much amused at tliew it of the clown, who was convulsing the crowd with his grotesque appearance and witty saying. After awhile he said something the crowd did not consider very "funny," and at which no one laughed, when a drunken man no longer able to hold his tongue, cried "You aie a fool." Though quito young, the reply of the clown made a deep impression upon my mind, and I determined to profit by it.? In after life, I have generally found that it required more fools than one to carry on successfully what we really condemn as foolish.
