Girls to Grow Food t
s
In the present food situation the; e
girls of Union county are going to a
play a prominent part.
To do this they are asked to cul- b
tivate one-tenth acre of some food
stuff, the produce of which should be I
above home consumption and marketable.
In this way each" of these I
girls will help feed someone and at I
the same time realize a purse for
themselves. a
Numbers of these clubs have al- b
roady been organized through the u
schools. We expect to reach every v
section of the county in the near fu- b
ture and we hope that each girl will li
not only feel it a duty but a privilege
to become a member of this food club, s
These girls will be instructed and b
supervised by the home demonstration
agent. h
Any girls interested that have not t
or will not be reached through the
s hools please see or notify me at a
your earliest convenience. v

The Troubles
Of The Merchant"
Coming to Union
Announcement has been made by
as. L. Carbery, secretary of the
Jnion Chamber of Commerce, that
e has completed arrangements with
?he National PnsVi
any to bring 10 Union, S. an ilastrated
lecture on retail merchanising.
The lecture, together with a
hree reel feature film, "Troubles of
Merchant, and IIow to Stop Them,"
/ill be given Friday night, March
st, at 7:30 o'clock in the Court ]
louse. W. J. Burns, expert lecturer, 1
/ill accompany the film. !
The retail merchandising lecture,,
/hieh has been prepared by The
lational Cash Register Company, is
eclared to be one of the most comtrehensive
lectures on the reasons
or retail business failures ever prepared,
and has been shown before
ommercial bodies, conventions, and
ther organizations the country over.
By means of stereopticon slides, the
;cture deals with the value of newsaper
advertising to the merchant,
ells him how to prepare advertiselents,
and also explains in detail the
est methods of window display, how
a solve delivery problems, perfect a
tore organization, and other intersting
ideas. r
The feature film. Troubles of a
lerchant. and How to Stop Them,"
diich will be shown for the first
ime in this city, was prepared by the
Issanay Company for The National
ash Register organization at a cost
f $30,000. Expert actors were emloyed
for every character, and it is
aid that every scene contains a !e?on
for retail merchants and their
alespeople.
The film tells the story of Mr.
Vhite, a grocer, who was discourged
and distheartened because of his
ick ot success. The story shows the
^difference of his clerks, his bad
tore systems, his poorly arranged
tock, and other causes of his trollies.
How he finally rose to success
ml prosperity through the introducion
of modern methods into his store
rill be shown in the film. ,
Many ideas of importance to merhants
and clerk will be brought out
uring the lecture. In other eomlunities
where it has been shown, it
as met with great enthusiasm. It
i expected that every business man
nd clerk in the city will avail himelf
of the opportunity offered by the
tcture, and that a large attendance
ill result. No charge will be made
>r admission.
