Mathis, Prop, j LOCKHART JUNCTION < Lockhart* Junction, July 16.?We 1 are in need of rain in this section; the gardens are failing very fast for need of rain. Forward corn is wanting rain and will soon suffer but cotton is doing nicely. The weather is favorable on cotton for it doesn't take much ;' rain for the cotton crop. This writer has just returned from ' Inman, where he attended the Meth- j odist District Conference held at that ' place. The delegation from the Jones- \ ville charge were H. J. Hames, J. W. Scott, M. C. Gault, T. II. Gore and Rev. Mr. Justus, our preacher in charge. There was a large delegation from the different charges in the Spartanburg District. The good people of Inman opened their doors in welcome to the delegation of preachers and lay members. I found many hospitable people at Inman like I do other places of course, but we always find the good, kind, hospitable people < largely in the majority wherever I go. i was assigned to the dome of Mr. S. W. Harris, where we were treated with kind hospitality by him and his entire family. While I was at Inman I visited the homes of Messrs. Pinkney and John Harmon, who live near that place. This is the fifst time that I have had the pleasure of visiting them since they left Union county, j They moved from Union county about 25 or 50 years ago. They were first renters in that section when they moved but now they own their lands, j They have nice dwellings and pood farms, and their prospect for a crop 1 this year is as pood as any I have seen. The corn crop is pood in that} section. I can't express how much 11 did enjoy mysef with the Harmon |, brothers and their kind families. I will say we were school boys together I and as we talked my mind went back | in memory to our boyhood days. Thouph times have chanped the bripht recollection of many years apo seems as it was yesterday when it passed. I will say the string hangs on the outside of their door to their friends whom they would be glad to have visit them from this county. I also met Mr. Pink and Mr. and 1 Mrs. Arthur Willard. They are also from Union county. No one enjoys < meeting old friends any better than this writer. My sociality is part of ] my religion, and theirs is, too. How glad you are made to feel when you i enter such homes where there is kind hospitality and a social feeling exists. 1 It speaks so much for people and it ' should be appreciated by all. i The special prayer meeting which i was held at the Gault school house < last Saturday night was well attended. This was for the soldier boys. There 1 were several talks made and some earnest prayers. Kev. Mr. Thrasher conducted the services. There were presents given the boys and the Rural ( School association which has beeiUf working for tMe Rfcd Cross and gav^ an ice cream supper sometime baqk f . will give their funds that were takdn ^ in to the soldier boys of this community. This will also be given as a ' present to them. Some of the boys ^ evpressed themselves as being ben- . efited by this prayer service and said so publicly in the meeting. The Sunday school picnic given at Elford drove last Saturday was enjoyed by many people. The pot of hash was fine and many other good things to eat was prepared by the j good ladies and everyone was boun1 tifully served. The farmers of this section will , soon get through laying by their | crops. Miss Florence Haney has gone to Heath Springs to teach a summer school. M iss Ida James has returned home from Ola, where she has been visiting, relatives. She reports a nice time, ] enjoying a month's stay with relatives and friends. I was glad to know that so many came to my home on the 4th of July < to enjoy a picnic. I was not at home, \ but they got my consent to come be- | fore I went. Did not know at that ] time that I would be away but they i, had their picnic just the same with a i pot of hash and all enjoyed a good j time. I wish I had been there.
