NEW HOPE [ New Hope, July 3.?We are surely having some dry hot weather now and would appreciate a rain very much. I The gardens and all growing plants ? i need rain. The writer attended the demonstration at Union Saturday that was held in the Chamber of Commerce by Miss Wessling of Washington. There was < a good gathering of ladies out. Miss Wessling showed how we could use ( soy bean meal and cotton seed meal and peanuts for bread making, which with just a little flour to sa\^ flour and make a real good substitute. I guess all farmers will have to raise j more of these substitutes for wheat in , order to have bread. Peanuts will be used a lot in the new way of making this bread. If we should have to send our flour to the army we will certainly have to have substitutes for wheat. The writer visited Miss Mary Tweed Saturday and went to the ice cream supper at Gault school house Saturday night, which was for the benefit , of the Red Cross. According to the j crowd a neat sum was realized for this cause. They also hold prayer meeting at the school house every Saturday night, at which they have a large attendance and seem to be doing lots of good. The regular preaching services were held at New Hope Sunday with a large crowd out. Mr. and Mrs. James Whitlock visited parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Whitlock Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Lancaster of Sulphur Springs attended services at New Hope Sunday. Don't forget the picnic Saturday, July 7th, in the grove near Mr. Gossett's at Mr. Dai's home.
