Nov. 4.?The fire ins.i ance situation has lieen in a mor1 less unsatisfactory condition since la sprint*. due to the withdrawal of ; larjrer companies. The lartrer comp nies, it is said, withdrew because the Laney-Odom Act, anil as a resi five insurance matters have been di turbed. Governor Manning and others ha undertaken to brint* about a rea justment and Commissioner McMasl has felt that the companies have be needlessly alarmed. Regardless what may he the merits of the co l roversy the fire insurance situati is disturbed and the business is 11 pursuing normal lines. Some time ago the Chariest agents issued a call, and as a result committee of five agents presented t suggestion of a commission to (Jo ernor Manning and Commissioner M Master. The idea is for this hig class commission to study the enti situation and to recommend such le islation as will best meet the nee and restore normal conditions if prr ticahle. Mr. McMaster is to he cha man of the commission that is to i vestigate the laws ami recommend a revision or to frame a new code thought best. Governor Manning, in the selecti of the commission, has given the nu ter most careful thought and has < lected men in whom the people ha entire confidence and whose suggc tions will inspire respect. Mr. iV Master will be chairman, and from t State senate he selected Mr. Lam of Chesterfield, who was one of t. authors of the I.aney-Odom Act. a will be familiar with that legislatir from the house be selected Mr. Dai I >.
