Some bottom la"nd not subject to high water heretofore and which had a fine prospect for a corn crop is now a hopeless prospect. Not only was the bottom land corn damaged but all crops, more or less, was injured to a great extent. To compare the present cotton crop with other cotton crops under normal conditions I believe the present crop will be cut almost half because of the extreme weather conditions. Cotton didn't come up until time for it to be cultivated and now that it is time for cultivation to cease it must be deprived of at least two ploughings and then probably be left to battle with the hay field. The heavy cost of rebuilding the bridges in Union county will cost the taxpayers a small margin for a few years to raise the funds but what if all this destruction had come and found the county already under bond for the enormous sum of $'250,000, which was wanted for road building? Look before you leap and think before you speak is two sayings worth while to recognize and to store in our mental vocabulary. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gault and itwo children of Denison, Texas, arrived last Thursday to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Gault. Mr. Gault says that the crops beyond the Mississippi river are burning up because of the lack of rain and from the river on this way they are very small and in some pla'ces they are in a very serious condition because of grass and wet weather.
