T\lcl ; For the next few c I L O C We are not giving you he II [remember i OAKLAND Oakland, May !>.?Most farm work has come to a standstill because of the continued dry weather. It is very doubtful whether there will be a full stand of cotton and corn even when it rains because the seed have been planted too long to be thoroutrhly sound yet. The early vegetable crop will not be so good this -pring on account of the insufficient water supply. The oat crop is a failure and cannot be relied upon as a feed crop for the summer months. There is a lot of land that will not produce enough oats to replace the seed that was used in sowing it. On last Friday night the death angel entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. .). 1$. Miller and claimed for its own the little girl baby that was born to them last Tuesday. The little body was laid to rest in the New Hope cemetery last Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. A very pleasant occasion that was greatly enjoyed by the writer was the picnic given by the good people of the Meador school section last Friday. The crowd was not so large but the dinner was an excellent one, including a large pot of nice hash. The origin and success of this pleasant j . affair is due the efficient teacher, 1 I Miss Carrie Hawkins, who has had 1W. B. Terrell Nnti X 1 Utl This Great | SOAP SALE EXTRA ORDINA! D MISS C.OUDELOCK TO LEAVE. Has Made Efficient Superintendent of the Telephone Exchange Here. The patrons of the telephone exchange are sorry that Miss Nancy Goudelock has been sent to Darlington. She has made an efficient superintendent. She is a thorough business woman, but withal extremely courteous, and all who know say that telephone operators have more trials than almost any other business. On Monday evening the Co-Op club gave a farewell party to Miss Goudelock, who has been such an inspiration to this club, and it was also a welcome party to the new superintendent, Miss Sue Canon, of Spartanburg. All of the employees of the telephone company were invited, and the parlor of the building accommodated thirty guests. Pink sweet peas were used in abundance, the lights were shaded with pink, and the refreshments also bore the colors. A flower contest was given, and Mr. Lee won a lovely basket of sweet peas. ; The firemen of the city did a thoughtful act and sent their Vic;rola up to the young ladies to use, and this they enjoyed very much.? \nderson Daily Mail." w. in Minis Seen in Our Show Wini rery citizen of TTNV It's a marvel National Capirty and Charugh the entire nt.
