The 49 companies port $1,738,350 of insurance. It is timated that the insurance will run ell near up to the $3,000,000 mark, le largest amount carried by any \ te company reporting was $300,000. ( lis company is located in Georgia. , Many of the leading business men I Augusta placed the loss as high as 1 0,000,000 the day following the fire. lis was too high. Lexington, March 28.?Twenty uildings in the heart of Lexington, nostly business structures, were detroyed with their contents tonight within two ho.us by a fire which broke ut shortly after 11 o'clock, inflicting . loss estimated by Mayor Charles E. 'aylor at $100,000, less than half covred by insurance. Driving southward before a smart reeze, the flames at 1 o'clock were weeping both sides of the main street nd they were checked only by a suden shift of the wind, which came imultaneously with the arrival of a riotor fire engine company from CoLimbia, 12 miles away. Then minutes fterward it was apparent that the ire area had reached its extreme exent, though brisk work was still reuired to quench incipient blazes in earby structures.
