Fire Sweeps All Before It in Mad Rush?New Building Soon. Chester. March 20.?Dr. S. W. Pryor's hospital on Saluda street lies in ashes tonight as the result of probably the most sensational conflagration in Chester's history. The loss is roughly estimated at between $35,000 and $40,000, about two-thirds covered by insurance. While many of the patients had narrow escapes, they were all brought out safely on stretchers and in their beds. Tonight all of the patients are resting comfortably, except for the fact many are very nervous after the fire shock. The alarm was rung in about 10 o'clock this morning. At that time the entire roof, which was a wooden one, as was the entire structure, was a mass of fire. The Stonewajl fire denartment was quickly on the scene and in a few minutes eight streams of water were playing on the fire, which was speedily gnawing its way downward. At first the water pressure was not satisfactory and the powerful pumps at the water station were then started to work, and water then came with a force that carried everything before it. Rebuild at Once. Dr. Pryor said tonight that the hospital would be re1 lilt at once and <>e constructed entirely of brick, cement and steel, and would be as near fireproof as is possible to make it. Dr. Pryor is bravely holding up under the tremendous strain through which he has gone today. He had built up a hospital that drew patients irora an over tne soutli and his reputation as a surgeon today extends over the country. Many telegrams received this afternoon from former patients all over the South attested to the high esteem in which he was held and general public sorrow at his great loss. A careful investigation was made by Dr. Pryor of the origin of the fire, but without avail. The only solution possible tonight is that it either caught from a spark that flew onto the roof from some other chimney or from the hospital's own chimney. The origin will ever remain a mystery. It was all a mass of flames before any one was aware of the fire. The sparks from the hospital fire ignited W. W. Coogler's next door, causing a $1,000 fire and water damage; next to that residence was Mrs. Anne C. Mutton's, which was damaged to the extent of several hundred dollars and fiirt-hor im S. D. Cross' home was ablaze several times, and his loss will reach possibly $1,200. The sparks likewise fired T. H. White's barn and Miss Emily Graham's residence about a block away, causing very little damage in these cases. All of these structures carry some insurance, sufficient to cover the losses. The Pryor hospital until recently was known as the Magdalene, and was built about 12 years ago by Dr. Pryor. = STOCKHOLDERS MEETING. 6 The annual stockholders meeting of The Union Times Company will be ? held in the offices of the company, Une ion, S. Opinion is not enough. Opinions differ. Here's a Union fact. You can test it. Mrs. R. N. Sprouse, 263 W. Main St., Union, says: "I was in a bad way with kidney trouble. I felt nervous and my health was shattered. The pains in the small of my back were terrible and they seemed to bother me more at night. I always felt thirsty and never seemed able to get enough water. The kidney secretions passed too often and I had such bad dizzy spells that often if I did not catch hold of something I would have tfallen. I doctored for six months and finally a friend told me to try Doan's Kidney Pills. I got some from the Ralmetto Drug Co. and after I had tAken one box, I felt relieved. I kept on until I had used six boxes and by that time all signs of kidney complaint left me." Price 50c, at all dealers.
