INTERESTING LETTER FROM MISS LORA CLEMENT. Konjr Moon, South China, Baptist Mission, Nov. 20, 1915. My dear Mother and All: I was in Hong: Konjr when I sent my last letter and things accumulate so quickly that I want to write every day so as not to leave anything out, but you know 1 don't have time. I want to start on the study of the tones next week with the teacher here. The two days?Monday and Tuesday?spent in Honfr Kongr, we were mostly on out feet from shop to shop doing: the buying for the house We spent a g:ood deal of time looking: for me a wardrobe and bookcase and found a place where I could fret a Teek wood wardrobe made for $35.00 in Chinese, which is about one-half that in out money. I hope to have a bureau made as soon as possible for I only have a box with a curtain around and a small shaving mirror to dress by and nowhere to put my things. We came down from Hong Kong in a small steamer with little accommodations and the captain offered and insisted on our taking his cabin on top deck which we did, and didn't suffer, though we did not sleep much on such a hard bed. He was a very nice younfj Scotchman. The Canadian Presbyterians have a splendid compound here and two ol their women and Mr. Sundstrom wert out at the docks to meet us at sever the next morning. We came on dowr to our simple Chinese brick house When these dear people heard frorr Dr. Ray that I was coming, they be gan to renovate everything and movi around to give me a room. Thej made a study out of an old trunk, s< we have a cozy place. My room ha: a southwestern opening with two win uows ami iwo aoors?one leaning int< the sittimr room and one into Mr. an< Mrs. Sundstrom's. The doors are si funny. If they happen to be as largi as ours, they make double doors am have hinges half way of each making a sort of folding? door in four places The smaller one piece doors largi enough for one to pass through an fixed at the top and bottom with i peg which turns in a slot. Yesterday we varnished some ta hies and hook shelves and when w< finished we took a walk up to thi mountain or foot hill near the bad of our house to give me a view of thi dace. We live out on the river closi to the docks and are separated fron the city by the mountain. This is al a large Delta formed hy the West riv er and of course t 'ere arc manj branches of the river which "ormi islands, etc. The mountain and hills make the scenery beautiful and it was quite cool up there. We saw numbers of villages anc towns. Most of the buildings ar< thatched roof or clay tile and low Our front door for the day time is i set of bars which slide back if wi want to go out and at night there an heavy doors to close behind these. Il we didn't have the bars, people woulc iust walk in and peer around. Oui floors downstairs are large squari tiles. We haven't any waterworks but are supplied from the West rive by people who bring buckets of wate: on a pole thrown across the shoulders This place is kept very sanitary am the Lord has surely blessed these peo pie, for while they have been de orived of many things which other have, and have waited so long for s home, yet He has given them healtl and they never have any flies, thougl they are plentiful with the f'hincsc Hogs, pigs and chickens all run loose I want to buy an oil heater before the weather gets very cold. We have one coal heater in the home and whei it is moved a hole is punched througl the roof, as there are no chimneys. The women all wear trousers and s loose sort of overshirt called s "sham", which comes half way he tween the hips and knees; high col lars and long sleeves. Mr. and Mrs. Meyers of the Stand aid Oil Co. live near us in a heautifu home built by the Standard Oil Co They are from Buffalo, N. V., an< have been to see me and invited us to take Thanksgiving dinner wit! them. We have a Chinese man cook, fa and clumsy, but cooks very well. We attended service at Ngoi-IIoi, i place down the river from here ant had to go in a boat. A groat manj children and women gathered in fo Sunday school and later at the churcl service we had three men and abou 35 women, besides children to whon Mi*. Sundstrom preached. Oppositioi is great at this place. Some are ver; faithful and the dearest little Bibl< woman?I.uk Koo, pronounced f.ool Coo, from the higher class of woniei works there among her people. Sh< is supported by the men's Bible das of the Northside Baptist in Spartan burg. She is a treasure, so conse crated and I wish she were mine. I not have time to tell you about i visit to two Chinese homes as nr I f.ime is limited, l>ut it is all very in terestinjr and I am so happy. A n si triad that I am here instead of Cantoi as these people are such Godly one and will mean so much to me. Wi pray for you all every day. With ; tfood-nitfht hutr. Lora. RECIPE FOR GRAY HAIR.
