Thomas on Saturday received information that a distillery was in operation on Bell's branch, about three miles from King's Cheek station, in Cherokee county. He at once went to the place, accompanied by Chief I). E. Lemmonds of the Gaffney police department. Special Officer Arthur Hopper and Special Officer B. B. Byers. Although the officers observed I the utmost caution in approaching the I scene of operations the three white j men who were on the scene fled so | swiftly that they made their escape. | Whiskey was pouring from the worm, as a run was in process of making. | Sheriff Thomas says that it is likely j that the still, which was of about 50 gallons capacity, had just been set up, J and that this was the first run to ; be made at this point. This of course means I that patients who are in need of treat1 ment will he sent to the hospital instead of to the county home as heretofore. The town council of Gaffney took similar action some time ago. I Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Wood have gone j on a trip to New York, Baltimore, | Philadelphia and Washington.
