Grainger and 1 14-2t. , LOCKHART JUNCTION Lockhart Junction, April 5.?We have snow ^and rain mixed in all along and it seems that the winter is going to last up into spring. Well, we will appreciate the spring when it comes. Rev. W. F. Gault and myself went to East Spartanburg, and then to Glendale, and then back to the town of Spartanburg, last week. We went in the interest of the monument work and we placed a monument to the graves of Mr. Gault's mother and father. While at Glendale we formed many acquaintances and met a few old friends I had not seen in years. One I will mention was Joe Fowler, who was born near Grendal Shoals on Pacolet river and moved to Glendale muis in opartannurg county several years ago. He is a son of Hamp. Fowler, who also was reared in Union county, and has many living relatives in this county now. Mr. Hamp. Fowler, his father, is dead, but he was a very noted man, he was known for his honesty and truthfulness and sobriety and far-sightedness He predicted many things. I heard him tell my father that the people would be going through the world ii. a rapid rate?would be flying and he said he would not see it but his children would. Now it has come true as he predicted. His son, Joe Fowler is very much like his father?very talkative and interesting, and has many records of his father's in writing, which he has kept for yearswell nigh 40. He has prices of produce, such as flour, sugar, coffee, molasses, and he gave me the prices of for flour in 1873, it was $13 a barrel; molasses was $1.25 a gallon, and other things he had on record, I did not have time to take down. I just mention this as I thought it would let the people who chance to read this that there has been prices and ham times before this. It seems to us it is high enough now, but you see what has been. Every once and awhile there is a great revolution and things change. Mr. Fowler shower, an old gourd he has kept, his great grandfather brought it from Ireland. The date cut on it is 17G4, making this gourd one hundred and fifty years old from that date. You see Messers Smike, Neb and Hey Denver, I sec more besides the ladies as I go around, but will tell you boys you ought to have been at Union last week and attended the Sunday School convention held at th? mot many fair ladies. At dinner they spread >ut many pood things to eat and treated all with such hospitality. I was assigned to the hospitable home of Mr. L. M. Jordan, where I spent several pleasant hours with him and his kind family. Since my last letter, Miss Aileen Bishop has died. I went to see her the day before she died; her rosy cheeks had faded, but she had the same oweel smile, she could not speak above a whisper, but she recognized me. Miss Aileen had Viki'n'b disposition, making friends wb?nfcV$|J* she met them. She left many good impressions and she will be missed at hoi- church, in her community, and most of all, in her home by her parents, brothers and sisters. She will for all time he in their memory, and also by her friends. This family have our heartfelt sympathy. Moxy.
