Farmwork is going on very wcii over the county and some crops are fine while others are poor; don't see how our ccuntry can expect full crops of cotton and corn with such |N<.?r prospects on July 1. Two deaths occurred in our town last week which will be found elsewhere in this issue. Our city fathers have been doing some work on the streets with the road machines. All our streets are now in fine condition and the public roads out of town are good. The Union Chautauqua boosters passed through our town last week making a fine display. The boys were a little dusty and tired. They stopped over long enough to take some cold drinks and make a couple of short speeches. Good advertising will boom any enterprise and finally nrings success. Come again boosters, we like to look upon your procession. Mr. F. T. Williams, who moved from Jonesville to Bay City, Texas in the early spring, has returned with his family, having found Texas submerged in water and no crops planted up to the time Mr. Cilliams left. Texas is a big country and has mixed soil and climate and when everything goes off well they make it all but sometimes they fail and its miserable failures too. The bricklayers on the new Metho-1 dist church had to lay off last week on account of the excessive heat. N I Mrs. John Rodgers and daughter. Miss Josephine have been the guests of Mrs. Dr. Chambers for several days. Mrs. Rodgers returned to her home in Atlanta today while Miss Josephine remained as she was not well and will go to Hot Springs, N. C. in n fow /lave Mr. Albert McWhirter of Columbk is visiting his father's family here. Messrs C. M. McWhirter and J. M. Gault attended the Bankers' convention at the Isle of Palms last week. According to the coming of the katydids we will have our first frost about the 22nd of October. The store of R. W. Scott company was entered last Saturday night and robbed. The entrance was mad^i through a front window and they left by a back window. Some pants, shoes and shirts were missing. The U. S. postoffice is in the store room but nothing is missing in that.
