Mr. Smith and 1 were born and reared to manhood in less than two miles of each other. We went to the same school and about tl four years before the late war he anr. We belonjred to the same t< company and regiment in the war and n for awhile after the war we were members of the same church?Bethlehem?but later on he went over to the Baptist church and remained a member of that church till his death. I have been findinp much fault with n the ladies' fashions for some time, but ? I must confess thnt I liU-o lofoef ' styles of hats, the small ones espec- P ially, for I never did like too much hat. The fashion of long ago when the large skirts, halmorals and the hoop skirts were in vogue was, I thought ugly and unbecoming, but the c< late fashion's short skirts and so tight that a tall woman hasn't got 'J room to walk without splitting the " skirt, is still more ugly and unbecoming:, but the women will have their way anything to the contrary, J] notwithstanding. d Rev. and Mrs. II. K. Ezell of Cross n Anchor spent the week-end with their daughter, Mrs. R. E. Littlejohn. ? Mr. R. J. Kirby spent the weekend in Spartanburg with Mr. Sam T. Reid. tM We are having a siege of carnivals of late. There is one putting up here _ now, which makes the third one in the last three weeks.
