Miss Agnes is very sick. Mrs. E. V. Cannon, of Spartanbure was in Santuc last week visiting her brother, Mr. J. McJ. Fant. Mrs. Estelle Thomas Hyde, of Charleston, is in Santuc, the scene of her childhood days, visiting relatives. Mr. M. G. Crosby, now with the Union Hardware Co., was in Santuc Sunday to visit his sister, Mrs. L. B. Jeter, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. J. Mobley Jeter, Jr., of Union, were in Santuc Sunday on a visit to their" parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ij. B. Jeter, Sr. Thanksgiving day is right upon us, the proclamation is, that everybo<ty take this day and give thanks to God for the many blessings bestowed upon us in the last twelve months. Now many do not know what it means, only that thev say it is .a holiday and they will do no work because there is an excuse to quit and not one in ten persons will think to give thanks, ami i do not think I will be far wrong at least. At the Sunday school, when the song, "Oh! wait, meekly wait," ^as being sung, a turkey gobbler stood near the door looking in the church, saying not a word, as if he had an unexpected thought and was seeming to say, "Oh! wait, meekly wait," and 1 perhaps you will see what Thanksgiving means and what it had in 1 store for him. There was a sure enought mad dog scare here two weeks ago. A dog ( got into two or more packs of fgx hounds, fighting and was killed. Mr. J. P. Jeter had several with a value , upon them, and not wishing to kill them, sent the head of the dog killed ,1 to Columbia for test and the test 1 showed it had hydrophobia. Mr. Jeter then killed his dogs, but I do not ! know that any others have been kill- ] ed. C., Oct. 10-13. The opening session was b?ld Friday afternoon, Oct. 10, wher. the enrollment of delegates took place, twenty-three delegates, five officers and fourteen visitors responding to roll call. s The following officers were present: Mrs. E. L. Hughes, president; Mrs. J. W. Allen, secretary; Mrs. W. H. Morton, treasurer; Mrs. Rebecca Deal, secretary of literature, and Mrs. H. W. Allen, chairman of Executive committee. Friday night the pastor of the church, Rev. C. B. Ratchford, gave an address of welcome introducing Rev. C. F. Rankin, of Laurens, who gave an address on Home Missions. Mrs. Motte Martin of our mission in Africa, who was present, gave a heart-stirring talk on the work and the needs in Africa. Her African nurse sang a hymn in the African language. ' Saturday night, after devotional exercises conducted by Rev. D. W. Richardson, of Chinkiang, China, two of the delegates took part in a dialogue on "Pros and Cons" of Foreign Missions. Rev. Mr. Hassel, a young man under appointment to Japan gave a talk on missions in, Japan. Then followed] an interesting pageant in which twenty of the young girls of Cross Hill took part. Sabbath morning and evening Rev. D. W. Richardson of our North Kiangsu mission preached soul-stirring sermons on missions in China. Sabbath afternoon was devoted to young peoples work'. Devotional exercises were^ conducted by the President, Mrs. F. L. Hughes; Miss Marie Dean of the Miriam Society of Spai tanburg, sang a solo. Miss Agnes Ravenel of the same society, told of the Blue Ridge Missionary Education conference which she attended lasi summer. Miss Amy Allen, secretary [>f Young Peoples' Work in the Charleston Presbyterial gave a practical talk on young peoples' work, after which steps were taken toward reorganizing a young peoples' band in the Liberty Springs church. An interesting feature of the Sat uraay aiternoon session was a round table conducted by Mrs. W. W. Simpson, of Woodruff, on how to meet the difficulties in the country churches. Mrs. Alvin Dean, of Greenville, read a paper prepared by Mrs. J. T. Woodside of * Greenville, in memory of our departed missionaries, Mrs. Annie Graybill, of Mexico; Mrs. Annie Wilkinson Mooney, of China; Mr3. S. M. Lane, of Brazil and the two children of Rev. and Mrs. R. G. Coit, of Korea. Letters were read from Dr. Ruth Morgan of our Haichow station in CMna. The Enoree Presbyterial has contributed $500.00 a year to the Haichow ever sirtce 1905. Reports were heard from the county institutes and thirty societies. Invitations for the next' meeting were received from Union and Woodruff, and Uniop was selected as the . next place of meeting. The election of officers resulted as follows: president. Mrs. W. W. Simpson, Woodruff; first vice president, Mrs. E. L. Hughes, Greenville; 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th vice presidents, leaders of county institutes; secretary, Mrs. J. W. Allen, Sprtanburg; treasurer, Mrs. W. H. Morton, Spartanburg; secretary of literature, Mrs. Rebecca Deal, Greenville; secretary of Young Peoples' Work, Miss Agnes Ravenel, Spartanburg.
