The weather the past week has beer fine for picking1 cotton. The cotton crop in this section is not so good as people thought it would be at one time. I'he writer was in York and Chester counties last week. Mr. Tweed went with me. Mr. Tweed having relatives in York county he wanted to see. The writer went on business. While in York county we stopped at the home of Mr. Robert Vinson, who Uon Uo.. Ll J? f 1 1 , una uuugnt a nne iarm 111 mat section. Mr. Vinson was a Union county man before he went to York and was so glad to meet his friends from Union county. We also stopped at the home of Mr. J. J. Jones, who live in the same section of the county near Mr. Vinson. Mr. Jones has a fine farm; making last year a bale of cotton to the acre on some of his farm. He tells me he bought 180 acres of land only costing him eleven hundred dollars. He could get as much again for that land now. Mr. Jones tells me he made the money that he paid for this land at the mills before he moved to the farm. We find that Mr. Jones is keeping up with things in Union county, as we find the Union Times in his home. The good people treated us so nice while with them that we felt verv much at home. The best farming we heard of in that county was done this year on the farms of the Latham brothers. They made off of nine acres sowed in oats, nine hundred and twenty bushels and have the same land planted in corn, that will make 50 bushels to the acre, also has a clover crop sowed on the same land. Now, it may seem to some that I have been in the beauty spot of the state. I don't know for I have seen several line farming sections. There are sweets and bitters everywhere. When we write we always want to write the truth qs we hear it or as ,lfA a! ace ii. tt mio sometimes we might be misinformed but there are some places I saw that I would not live if it was driven to me. Poor unbroken hills and gullys and a long way from market. "There is no place hke home." I saw the largest graveyard I ever saw in the country. It was Bollick Creek graveyard. One man told me there was six acres in it and one said eight. It was fenced with woven wire and the graves kept clean and some handsome monuments erected. The people care for their dead. As I sat in that large auditorium and looked upon that body of men, the thought . came to me, that there ought not to j be a failure on the part of the church work. Mr. and Mrs. John Carter, from the New Hope section, visited Mr. and Mrs. D. C. White last week. MOXY. Attention, Sunday School Workers! The Union County Interdenominational S. S. Convention will be held at Jonesville Oct. 11-12. A splendid ? program is being arranged. Let ev ery Sunday school in the county send delegates. Union is now a banner j county and we are striving to reach the front this year. This will depend largely, upon how you attend your county and district conventions.
