I Gilreath, one of the most prominent d and bent known citixena oi Green- " ville County/ died thia morning tl after an illness of several days, brought on by an attack of aucte in- c digestion on January 18. - He was in his 76ib year, and for twentyfour years was sheriff of Greenville County. Mr. Gilreath was born in the upper part of the county, and early in life married Miss Emily Taylor, also of Greenville. To them six children were born, five of whom are living. Mr. and Mrs. Gilreath,' the latter surviving, observed the fifty-sixth anniversary of their marriage the past year. Sixteen grandchildren and two great grundchildrenfralso survive. Mr'. Gilreath served through the War Between the' States and his record is without a blemish. It has been said of him that he did not know the meaning of the word fear. and during the twenty-four years he Berved ae sheriff of this county he displayed courage and efficiency l that has never been excelled. He * was succeeded as sheriff by his son, J. Gilreath, and the two together held the reins of that branoh ol the county government for thirty-two I years.
