One could feel it. but cannot describe it. We were sitting in the shadow of the beautiful memorial window placc-d~1n the Raptist church by Sain Jones sacred to the memory of pis Raptist brother Joe. It hafijjj^f) looked upon and admired hv thousands who in their hearts wer; wishing that some return could be made, and when the suggestion came from the generous and devoted heart of "Karnest W illie' it was like apples of gold in pictures of silver. "Then Rev. Alex W". V.ealer rose and in his graphic way painted a word picture of the baptismal scene when he led Joe Jones into the water, just a few weeks before bis death, and how a little later he had suggested the idea of this memorial window to the Rev. Jamestown Exposition. s.-. ; Norfolk. \ a.. Dec. 5.?What 1 archaeologists declare will solve the mystery surrounding the unci o 111 mound builders was discov-1 ered recently in one of a series of hills alonjr the Illinois river, in that State. The "find" shows traces or handicraft of past ages, and the hones of those who wrought it. Several skeltons were exhumed more than eight feet long. also pieces of remarkable i pottery, heads and curious implements. I'nder the bones of the ancient dead were found vases, the i the largest of which arc capable of holding more than two gallons, while under a skull was unearthed a howl in the center of which is a {well-fashioned figure of a king, 'seated upon a crude throne. It is believed by scientists that these I bones may he those of a great lead; er of the race that once ruled this portion of the country. I Strangest of all the articld^ found with the bones were implements that are apparently made of bambo. some of them evidently shaped for weaving. Countless I beads were found in the mound of a strange material almost white.! and possibly made from the best of potter's clay. i Another interesting and curious i "fm#!" te 'i e1io1l-clt')i\i>/l /Itcll until a wolf's head, the work 011 which loaves 110 doubt that it was carved, oven the teeth of the wolf gleaming front it. and as exquisitely executed as some of the ivory carvinjLT of the Japanese. Thousands of persons arc being attracted to the scene of cxcavauiscoVerie*. The soil oT Tf1t?*lf"lbhViV\ has never been disturbed and to this fact is attributed the marvelous preservation of the things taken front it. Kminent archaeologists arc unanimous in the opinion that the mound is a prehistoric burying ground, greater in extent and more perfectly preserved than anv vet discovered, and is a valuable con-, tribntion delinitely settling manvi mooted points. An effort is being made not onlv to secure this remarkable "find" in il^ entirety for the Jamestown exposition. but the results of investi-i gations determining the history of this rare and extinct race of peo-1 pie.
