A.. Wise Writes About the Bond Issue. th ' wi Hindsight is always better than ^ foresight, and it is easy enough to say what we would have done had fr we known that things would Wve been thus and so, but surely thew* people of Jonesville would not have V, voted down the prospect to enlarge ' the present graded school building w if they had thought for one minute ^ how it would have effected the . school and the town. Next to the ^ church there is nothing that is of ^ such benefit to the town as the ^ school. The two go hand-in-hand, each building the other. They are ^ the best representatives of the life of the town, the best indications of prosperity and progress. Any attempt to retard the growth of ? either is a blow to the progress of the town or community. Every town wants the best people possible . in it, but unless these same people 1 can obtain the best advantages they fl will go elsewhere, leaving, theu- v ..I.7i, wmi tfrfFis filled c i at all) who are absolutely jndiffier- ? ent to the welfewo "flf "" t!i? I [ nity, to their own welfare^ that of , : their children. A nBBlS' Slement in arfy town, surely. j So much by way of introduction. ^ Now for our own school. We have . j an excellent building of five rootns, ( four class rooms and an audito^ rium. We have now enrolled 175 pupils with five teachers, an aver age of 35 pupils to one teacher. We have not class rooms for the o five teachers so one of them must 'f use the auditorium. That was not intended to be used as a class h room, so it has neither boards nor f desks. At present there are six desks on the rostrum that were brought in from the other rooms. r The children cannot use pen and ' Jnb- writing ln>nsiuse thev have n no place to write. They, can't be n taught from the boaM, because [y there is no board except one made of lx)ards that we succeeded in getting last session and a small piece a' of canvas tacked on the wall, k* Anyone who knows anything of .e" teaching knows that you might as well try to build a house without 8. lumber, raise cotton without seed, a8 or keep a store without goods, as to 8s try to teach without a board.
