JUST A FEW.
The lady who walks with a kangaroo
glide,
The boy who struts round with his hat on
one side, ?.
The man who wears clothes on a bright
summer day
I Bo loud you can hear them a full block
away,
; The dude who was raised as his mamma's
own pet
And Alls Ills blank faco with a cheap
cigarette.
The fellow who whistles a tune on the
train,
Are some of the items that give me a
pain.
The man who has won a sure thing on tho
race
And springs his roll on you in every old
place,
The man who has filled up his system with
beer
And comes round to pour out his soul in
your ear.
The youth fresh from college, who thinks
he can show
llis dad a few points as to how things
should go.
The lady so cultured she cannot talk plain.
Are some of the Items that give me h pain.
The girl who can sing, dance n twostop
and paint.
But v.'ho at the sight of a dish rag wouliT'
faint;
The man who detains you n full hour or
more
To tell how unaided he put down the war.
The spoiled child who raises the roof with
a yell
Till mamma Is certain the darling's unwell.
The man who because of his whiskers is
vain.
Are some of the items that give me a pain.
; The woman of forty or upward who tries
j Her best to be kittenish, blinking her eyes;
! The girl whbTan talk about nothing but
!beaus
And thinks every fellow comes round to
f propose.
The youth who lives only for baseball and
sport.
The borrowing friend who is all the time
short.
The fellow who builds only castles In
Spain,
Are some of the items that give me a pain.

What does be give her?
A seven pound roast.
x noii uoes ne enarge ner only for

No, indeed. He charges her for what
he chose to give her.
Didn't the lady know what she wanted?
Evidently the man didn't think so.
Can't ho tell the weight of a piece of
meat when he picks St up?
Certainly he can. Otherwise he would
never be able to know that he is always
selling you n piece of meat several
pounds bigger than you wanted.
Why does the man do this?
It is impossible to associate constantly
with greasy things and not become
pretty smooth yourself. Now run

FISHING LINES.
The Very l-'inmt Are Thone Formed
From Silkworm Gut.
Silkworm gut forms the best Jine for
fishing purposes, partly 011 account or
its great tenacity and partly because it
is so transparent. Every year a sufficient
number of Spanish silkworm
grubs are selected for this purpose. After
they have eaten enough mulberry
leaves and before they begin to spin
they are thrown into vinegar for several
hours. Each insect is killed, and
the substance which the grub in the
natural course would have spun into a
cocoon is forcibly drawn from the dead
worm into a much thicker and shorter
silken thread.
The threads are theu placed in pure
water for about four hours and afterward
dipped for ten minutes in a solution
of soft soap. Tho flue outer
skin is thus loosened so that the workman
can remove it with his hands.
The threads must be dried in a shady

sulphur vapor until they acquire the
bright appearance of spun glass.?Lon|

Usefulness of any man or woman lies
principally in tho willingness back of
the hands to do as well as they possibly
can whatever comes their way.
As a rule, it will be found that the
most useless persons in the world are
those who are "waiting" for something
to turn up. And by the same sign it is
a fact that the most useful beiugs are
those who have taken up the llrst thing
thut came to hand and done the best
they could with it. These people usually
lind something to their liking in the
long run, too, and if this he denied
them they have the good sense to learn
to like what comes.

them still there. Some kinds, like pkoebes,

BAD COMPANY.
Not a Home in Union
Where This Visitor is
Welcome.
The most unwelcome visitor in
Union is am itching skin disease. Itching
I'iles, irritating Eczema are had
company. We are glad to get rid of
them. Doan's Ointment will drive
ihem away. Plenty of Union endorsement
to prove this.
J. M. Mardls, retired farmer, a
veteran of the Civil War, residing at
22 l.ibrnnd street, says: "I have u?ed
Doan's Ointment with very satisfactory
results. For a long time I suffered
from itching piles. I lost my
leg in the war. but I have suffered
more from the intolerable itching
than I ever did with the leg,'and there
seemed to be no relief night or day.
It was a constant torture and the more
I scratched the more it itched. I have
done everything to try and relieve it,
hut to no purpose until I read about
Doan's Kidney Pills and Doan's Ointment
and procured a box of the latter
at Hollies Pharmacy. The salve
stopped the itching on the first application
and I can now say entirely
cured it. You are welcome to use my
name as an endorsement of the claims
made for this remedy."
