An Entertainment. '
Miss Ixmlse Young entertained a !
few of her friends on Monday even- r
ing. The feature was unique J it j
consisted of a guessing contest, in
which each guest tried to give the
name of professional men's wives: r
e. g. The shoemaker's wife was ;
"Pesrirv." the nreacher'n wife
"Mario" and ro on. Two prizes were
offered, one for the gentleman and
one for the ladies; the former was j
won by Prof. Clarence Edwards, the <
latter by Miss Skinner. Among those (
present were Misses Katharine Skin- i
ner, Blanche Morris, Blanche Garner,
Bessie Townsend, Agnes Robinson,
Sallie Hix, Bessie Yonng, Margaret
Young. The gentlemen present'were !
Prof. Clarence Edwards, Dr. I. M. <
Hair, Messrs. Renwick, Hunter, J.
C. Copeland, Fred Garner, Roland
Sealfe, Robt. Miller and Newton Walker.
Delioious refreshments were
served, and a most enjoyable evening j
was spent. Although rain . was*fall- 1
Ing without, good cheer and happy 1
contentment reigned within.
Healing Waters,
Some mineral waters are kept before '
the public by constant and extensive ad- j
vertlsiog. There are other waters that ;
keep themselves before the public eye, j
by reason of their healing properties.
The noted West Springs water is a case
in point. When sick people go to West
' Springs they get well. Many marvelous 1
cures have been wrought. Chronic I
indigestion, chronic dysentery, kidney
and liver troubles?in fact, any run
down condition of the system finds a
specific in West Springs water. Sick ,
babies are made well by a stay at the
springs. To drink the water after it ;
has been shipped from the Springs is not
like taking it right at the spring. If ,
you are weak, nervous, run down, suf- (
faring from poor digestion; in other ,
words, if you are starving by slow degrees.
fo to West Spring*. Write to
Mr. J. B. Davis, West Springs, 8. C.
for term*. Ha is proprietor of the hotel .
and ia giving good fare at reasonable
rates. Are you on the look out for a
quiet ifiace, where you may gain in
health and enjoy the restful sweetness of '
the country air? Then go to West
Springs. Dr. SeU&jr, a prominent
physician of Newberry, is out at the 1
Springs this summer for the sixteenth
mMhmar. He says that about this time |
ejkry year lie gets hungry f.ir the water.
He cornea and gets what he seeks?rest
and increased vigor and health. Write
to Mr. J. B. Davis, proprietor, West
Springs, for any information you may
d-aire. It.

A Prosperous Merchant. !
The fiieuds of Mr. W. Minter Turner, |
formerly of thin place, will be glad to j
hear of the success he is achieving in j
the coniuieicial world. lie. with tlueei
other young men, have organized a general
merchandise company, of Manning,
S. C. Mr. Turner is manager of the
coucern and lias just returned from the
(northern markets where he purchased a
magnificent stock of goods for the big
tore which will open on the fifteenth.
Wo hope the "Big Four" may have
;very success and especially that Union's
lepresentative may continue to deserve
the confidence of his associates by the
business ability aud integrity which has
to soon placed him at the head of the
Miming enterprise of Manning.
A Cretlil to Union County
The recently developed coucern
mown as The Union Grocery Company,
ives promise not only of filling a long
elt want in this section, but bids fair to
>e a credit to Union County and the
trowing ci'y of 10,000 people in which
t is located. The quiet, unassuming
vuy in which the management is forgug
ahead with the details of the busitess
and the conqietent aud courteous i
oree of salesmen that they are gatherng
makes everylwdy sure of getting the
'ery best of attention and all in a bus111./.

One of tho strongest claims this com any
has (or that any company can J
lave) is that it is composed of home i
i en?honest, hard woiking farmers, J
uill men and mechauics?men who '
mow what it takes to earn a dollar, aud i
eho in dealing with their fellow men J
Ki'.ieve in the i>olioy of "live and let i

The manager of Tho Union Grocery i
;o. goss a long way towards winning a i
lece in the heart of every man who j
rants to got the best he can for himself, i
rbeu he takes the fair and square stand J
hat he does against anything and every- i
lung in the shape of a trustor monopoly <
nd he stated a truth that is worth con- '
idering when he says that every dollar i
ou spend with The Union Grocery Co., J
ou not only do as well for your self as <
ou can do anywhere elss in the county, J
ut you actually contribute something to |
he good of yonr county; for every dollar *
hat this concern makes will be paid to \
onest hard working men of your oouuty i
/ho deserve it. <
As an evidence of good management J
nd ability to take care of any business
hat might be entrusted to it, the many
riends and customers of Macbeth Young,
etttr known as Yonng the Giocer, also
f It l\ Morgan, successor to Morgan
nd Wagnon, have not b?en icconveumctd
in the least by the changing ot
lieir business. The Union Groceiv
.'cmpany, having absorb2d these two
occerns, has extended every reasonable
curtesy to their customers, and in fact,
i) little trouble or annoyance was expereuctd
that except for the urinted infnr
nation many would not have known of
he change,
Mr. Young and Mr. Morgan will depote
their time to other business, but
heir interests are still represented in
[die Union Grocery Company and they
)df>l>eak for the company all favors hereot'oie
shown them individually.
The new company has already gotten
n several thousand dollars worth of new
md seasonable goods, and contracted
01 a full page advertisement in the uext
jsue of the Union Times.
This has the right ring, for a company
hat deals liberally witli its home papers,
tsually deals liberally with all its patons.
Look out for the full page of bargains
hat this company will offer next week.
