Passenger and Freight Crash ol Near Jackson, Ga. MANY PASSENGERS INJURED. SC hi misunderstanding by Crews of Both ^ Trains Seems to Have Been the Cause of {he Accident?None of the til Passengers Were Fatally Injured- til Atlanta, Feb. 10.?'Advices received here state that a liead-ln collision occurred on the Southern railway about O < a mile south of Jackson. The passenger train had the right of way, and was on time at Jackson. KU Relieving the track to be clear, the engineer opened his throttlo and was picking up speed when he observed stl the headlight moving toward him. ^ He knew at once that it was the 1>r first section of 51. which he expected cu to pass at the next station. He re*i ? versed his engine and applied his p^ brakes, as also did the engineer of the freight when lie discovered the ap. ^ proaching passenger train. Both trains rapidly decreased in speed, but they were too close to each other to avoid the collision. The engines were badly wrecked, trc Vint fli? - .,..V >..u Vimsi Iioll.of v: l.uur WttS I fJ the passenger train.
