There's going to be a hog killing time in some sections of Union county this winter. Magistrate J. G. Hughes turned over the office to his successor Mr. W. W. Johnson on the 15th inst. Mr. Hughes has made a good record as magistrate since assuming charge of the office in January, 1002. He has issued papers in 248 ciiminal and 67 civil cases, out of all cases tried of the above number there was not a single appeal. Mr. Hughes will continue the practice of law in Union. We hope the Mayor will limit the funmakers to the throwing of confetti. The scene on the streets of the city of Colombia the night of the Elk's Carnival was enough to thoroughly disgust any one. There was possibly not more than a dozen in that great crowd who was not more or less sprinkled with flour and white powder, while hundreds were literally covered with it. Rev. L.
