On Wednesday a negro by the name of Spencer Rice was burning jome brash or logs and carelessly let the fire get out in the woods, and caused a big forest fire, burning the argo timber land some 200 acres between Mr. M. B. Lee's and Mr. Dave Gist's place's. The fire gained such terrible headway that the flames were seen to leap 400 to 500 yards and take new hold. Mr. Lee and bis entire family had the hardest kind of work to save his tenoing, by raking and firing against the coming Eire. The Graded schools of Union are in a very flourishing condition, and while vaccination has caused an unusual : number of absentees, the average attend- ^ ance has been good and the school roll i t larger than ever before. Superintendent h ive established for the i Union Graded Schools will be fully sus- i tained in the future. It has required all the room in the extra addition to the School building to accommodate the rapidly growing list of pupils.
