Mr. Fowler, of the Bentley rchcol came to Kelton with about a dozen of his selected spellers. The entire Kelton School stood lip against them by agreement, and the battle started. The word primer was used, and Mr. Fowler and Miss Mary Lee Hardin, teachers of the two schools, respectfully, Bentley School and the Kelton School, altermated in giving out the words.
